BOTOX Injections

BOTOX injections are a very popular approach to reversing some of the most common signs of aging – dynamic wrinkles. These are the lines that form over time from the facial expressions we make frequently, commonly called crow’s feet, worry lines, squint lines and laugh lines. BOTOX injections work to reduce those lines by relaxing the facial muscles that create them, resulting in a smoother, fresher and more youthful appearance.

Who Can Benefit From BOTOX?

BOTOX offers a safe, effective, non-surgical solution for reducing or erasing dynamic facial lines and wrinkles. These wrinkles, also commonly referred to as expression lines, develop in areas of skin where underlying facial muscles contract to bunch or crease the skin when we smile, laugh, frown or scowl. Over time, skin that is frequently bunched or creased by facial expressions can develop lines and wrinkles that do not smooth out on their own, and they tend to grow gradually deeper and more noticeable over time.

Common examples of dynamic wrinkles are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead creases, lines that develop at the outer corners of the eyes, commonly called crow’s feet, and squint lines that form across the bridge of the nose. BOTOX, when injected into precisely planned points in facial muscles, works to reduce or erase dynamic wrinkles by inhibiting the muscle contraction that causes them.

How BOTOX Injections Are Done

BOTOX injections are a quick, comfortable cosmetic procedure that typically takes less than 30 minutes. The first step is a consultation, during which Dr. Arroyo will perform a thorough evaluation to determine precisely where BOTOX injections should be placed to ensure maximum effectiveness. Then, using very fine needles, Dr. Arroyo will inject small amounts of BOTOX into the facial muscles to produce a controlled weakening effect in those muscles, reducing muscle contraction to smooth away dynamic wrinkles.

What Patients Can Expect After BOTOX Procedures

Immediate post-procedure effects are generally limited to minor redness and irritation at injection sites, and some patients may experience minor inflammation, bruising or bleeding. Less commonly, patients may experience temporary weakness in nearby muscles, and very rarely, BOTOX treatment may result in eyelid drooping or allergic reaction.Patients can expect skin smoothing results to last, on average, 3 to 4 months before touch ups are required. Patients who have regular BOTOX treatments, research suggests, often find that the dynamic wrinkles are slower to return, allowing longer intervals between BOTOX treatments as muscles become trained to relax over time.
