Facial implants may be used on their own to enhance facial appearance, in combination with other cosmetic procedures, or as a component of reconstructive or orthognathic surgeries.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Facial Implants?
In general, a good candidate for facial implants is an individual who is in good general health and:
- Has reached full physical maturity in terms of growth of facial bones
- Is bothered by a small chin, weak jaw, a poorly defined nose or cheekbones, facial defects, or the cosmetic results of facial trauma
- Has reasonable expectations of these procedures – augmentation, not total transformation

What Patients Can Expect
Details of treatment that combines facial implants with other surgical treatment vary greatly from one patient to another and can only be offered on a case by case basis.Simple augmentation procedures are typically done on an out-patient basis using a combination of local anesthesia and IV sedation. Procedures generally take between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending upon the particular facial implants to be placed.
Patients can expect some pain, swelling and bruising after surgery, and will have some restrictions on activity immediately after procedures that may be in place for just a few days or several weeks, depending upon the specifics of treatment.
