You may have just been referred to an Oral Surgeon for an extraction or other Oral Surgery and are asking.
The first appointment will be an evaluation and consult with Dr. Arroyo. She may need to take some x-rays, check your blood pressure and ask you many questions regarding your health history, including what medication you take. Dr. Arroyo will need to evaluate your particular situation, health history and give you options for sedation or general anesthesia. Our highly trained staff works closely with Dr. Arroyo in providing safe and efficient treatment. Since there is no such thing as a “simple extraction”, the Oral Surgery team is more experienced in handling any type surgical case, no matter the complexity.
An Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon requires up to six additional years of hospital based surgical and anesthesia training after graduating from Dental School. As a Board-Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Arroyo can manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, face, and jaw. Dr. Arroyo practices the full scope of the specialty with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery, wisdom tooth removal, to corrective jaw surgery and facial cosmetics. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention.
Oftentimes you will need special medication prior to any treatment; or you may need or want IV sedation to have your surgery done. Our staff is trained in assisting with IV sedation and outpatient General Anesthesia. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery. Of course, surgery done under IV sedation requires an empty stomach (no food or drink for 8 hours prior to the surgery). That is why most surgery with sedation is done in the morning.
These and other reasons, like informing you what your surgery will cost and what insurance benefits you can use toward your procedure, make the evaluation and consult at the first appointment mandatory. Whenever a patient has their surgery done under IV sedation or General Anesthesia, it is necessary to pre-pay for the services, and for you to have your driver stay on site throughout the surgery. This will ensure there will be no questions regarding how you will get home and how you will pick up your prescriptions.
If you are coming from another office, a referral package was either sent to us electronically or given directly to you to bring to your appointment. The referral package includes instructions from your Doctor and your X-rays. Please don’t forget to bring this to your appointment, as this may cause a significant delay in being seen on-time for you appointment, and could jeopardize your ability to be seen that day!.
